Personal running coaching for committed runners who want to improve consistently, even when life doesn’t go to plan.

BEAM combines a personalised rolling plan with proactive weekly review. Your training is adjusted around your goals, completed work, recovery and life outside running.

Your plan tells you what to run. Your coach decides what makes sense now.

Sydney Marathon Runners

The plan is only the starting point

A static training plan assumes every week will unfold as expected. Real life rarely works that way. Work becomes busy, sleep changes, illness interrupts training, soreness appears and races overlap.

BEAM coaching starts with a clear plan, then actively manages it. Your coach reviews what you actually completed, considers your feedback and makes calm decisions about when to progress, hold or adjust.

The objective is not to complete every session at any cost. It is to build consistent, sustainable progress across your season.

Who BEAM coaching is for

BEAM coaching may be a good fit if you:

  • Are already running and want more structure, accountability and coaching judgment
  • Are targeting a 10km, half marathon, marathon or a season of events
  • Need training to work around employment, family, travel or changing availability
  • Have followed plans before but find it difficult to make good decisions when training is interrupted
  • Want ambitious but sustainable progress rather than unnecessary hero sessions
  • Value a long-term coaching relationship and clear explanations

It may not be the right fit if you want:

  • A one-off generic plan with no ongoing coaching
  • A guaranteed race result or an injury-free guarantee
  • Constant or daily access to a coach
  • Medical diagnosis or injury rehabilitation
  • Immediate enrolment without a short fit conversation

What coaching looks like each week

BEAM Personal Run Coaching includes:

  • A personalised rolling plan delivered through Final Surge
  • A clear training direction appropriate to your goals—from a focused race build to a broader season roadmap where useful
  • A formal weekly review of completed training, feedback and current context
  • A concise weekly summary explaining what went well, what is being monitored, any adjustment and the next focus
  • Proactive changes when training, recovery or life circumstances change
  • Support with race pacing, preparation, execution and post-race review
  • Communication through Final Surge and email for meaningful questions and updates

Know when to progress, hold or adjust

Your weekly review includes a simple training status:

  • Green — Progress: training is being absorbed as expected and normal progression may be appropriate.
  • Amber — Adjust or monitor: something needs closer attention, so training may be held, modified or monitored.
  • Red — Reduce, stop or refer: a meaningful concern requires immediate action before normal training continues.

This status is about what your training needs now. It is not a judgment of your commitment or ability.

Coaching is A$75 per month for new athletes, with no long-term lock-in.

How coaching begins

1. Submit a coaching application

Complete the short form below with your current running, main goal and what you would like help with.

2. Your application is reviewed

Ben reviews your likely fit, coaching needs and current availability. This may lead to a conversation, waitlist or recommendation that another option is more suitable.

3. Have an initial coaching conversation

If BEAM looks suitable, we will arrange a short conversation about your goals, expectations and how coaching works. This is a mutual fit check, not a sales call.

4. Complete your athlete profile and setup

Once we agree to proceed, you will complete the detailed athlete profile, coaching agreement and Final Surge setup. Your initial goals, season direction and starting plan are then prepared.

5. Begin the weekly coaching cycle

Your training begins with a rolling plan, ongoing monitoring and a formal weekly review. The first few weeks are also used to refine the plan as your coach learns how you respond.

Pricing and availability

BEAM is application-led and capacity-controlled so every athlete can receive proper attention. Suitable applicants may occasionally be offered a later starting date or a place on a short waitlist.

The current new-athlete price is A$75 per month. There is no long-term lock-in. Submitting an application does not commit you to coaching or payment.

If BEAM is not the right fit, Ben will be honest about that and may suggest another appropriate next step.

Testimonials

Dylan Woodlands 10km win

Thanks Ben, was honestly everything I thought it would be. Was a lot of mental game from early on. Your advice really helped. I really stuck to the plan and the last 10km I just took it 1km at a time and knew I had enough left in the tank to keep going. It was such an overwhelming experience something I’ve never had felt in my life. Again thank you for everything, I know in myself I would never have achieved what I did without your help and training.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK @ben_mudie for helping me with my training plan for @austrunningfest half mara… I did it! PB!

Tash

Thanks Ben for being a great running coach and helping me to reach my running goals. I have learned so much about running and race strategy through Ben’s personalised training plans, extensive knowledge and valuable feedback. I am a busy working mum with two young boys and did not think that I would have time to train for a half marathon. Ben designed a great running program which helped me keep focus and reach my running goals. I ran my first half marathon In April 2018 and my second in October! Thanks Ben

James after Sydney Marathon

Having my runs set out each week is probably my favourite thing. It’s very nice not having to think about it, allows me to laser focus each session and get the most out of it
