Who this plan is for
This plan is designed for people who:
- Do not currently run
- Can walk comfortably
- Feel unsure where to start
- Want guidance that feels realistic and achievable
You do not need any running experience.
You do not need special gear.
You do not need to be fit to begin.
What the plan includes
There are no pace targets.
There is no pressure to rush.
The goal is to make running feel manageable.
How the plan works
Each session follows the same simple structure:
- Start with walking
- Add short run segments
- Gradually increase running over time
- All running is done at an easy, conversational effort.
Walking breaks are encouraged and are part of the plan.
This approach allows your body to adapt gradually while keeping training realistic and sustainable.
Why BEAM approaches beginners this way
Many beginner plans focus only on reaching 5km as quickly as possible.
At BEAM, we care more about what happens after that.
Our coaching philosophy prioritises:
- Gradual progression
- Consistency over intensity
- Reducing the stop-start cycle caused by injury or burnout
Running works best when it is treated as a long-term habit, not a short-term challenge.
What happens after 5km?
Reaching 30 minutes of continuous running is an important milestone.
From there, most runners benefit from:
- Building consistency
- Slowly increasing weekly running
- Learning how to extend distance safely
This is how runners progress from starting out to running regularly, and eventually toward longer goals if they choose.
BEAM supports runners at every stage of that journey.
