BEAM Pace Support
Any distance. Any split.
BEAM Pace is a fast, flexible running calculator for pace, time, distance, speed and splits.
If you need help using the app, have found a problem or have an idea for a future improvement, contact BEAM Running using the details below.
Using BEAM Pace
How do I calculate pace, time or distance?
Enter or edit two independent values in the calculator. BEAM Pace calculates the remaining values automatically. Pace and speed describe the same rate, so include distance or time as one of your values.
For example, enter a 10 km distance and a 45:00 target time to calculate the required pace and speed.
Can I use custom split distances?
Yes. BEAM Pace supports common split intervals such as 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1 km and 5 km, as well as custom split distances.
Why does Half Marathon or Marathon default to 5 km splits?
Five-kilometre splits provide a useful default for longer races without creating an unnecessarily long split table. You can change the split interval at any time.
How do I enter a marathon time such as 3:45:00?
When editing Time, type 34500. BEAM Pace formats this as 3:45:00.
The same quick-entry system can be used for shorter times and pace values.
Can I mix kilometres and miles?
Yes. Distance, pace and split units can be changed independently where supported, allowing combinations such as a mile race with min/km pace and 400 m splits.
Saved calculations
How do I save a calculation?
Open the menu and choose Save calculation.
Saved calculations remain on your device and can be restored, renamed or deleted from Saved calculations.
No account or cloud sync is required.
Race Predictor
What does Race Predictor do?
Race Predictor estimates equivalent performances at other common race distances from a known result.
If you already have a valid distance and time in the main calculator, Race Predictor can use that result automatically. You can also enter a different result directly in Race Predictor without changing your current calculation.
Predictions use the Riegel model and are estimates rather than guarantees. Actual performance, particularly over longer distances, depends on endurance, training, course, weather and race-day conditions.
Race start times and checkpoint ETAs
Can BEAM Pace show race-day clock times?
Yes. Add a race start time to show estimated clock times alongside your elapsed splits.
BEAM Pace can display:
- checkpoint ETAs
- estimated finish time
- next-day indicators when a result crosses midnight
No race date or time zone is stored.
GPS Compensation
What is GPS Compensation?
GPS watches can record a slightly different distance from the official race distance because of racing line, GPS accuracy and conditions.
GPS Compensation calculates the pace you would need to see on your watch if you expect it to record a different total distance.
For example, a marathon target might show:
- Official target pace: 5:20/km
- Expected watch distance: 42.5 km
- Watch target pace: approximately 5:18/km
Your official race splits remain based on the official race distance.
BEAM Pace does not predict how much extra distance your watch will record. You choose the expected watch distance you want to plan for.
Sharing and pacing cards
How do I share a pacing plan?
Tap the share button to create a clean summary or pacing card for your calculation.
Depending on your setup, cards can include:
- target time and pace
- selected checkpoints
- cumulative times
- race start and estimated finish time
- checkpoint ETAs
- GPS watch target
You can use Share Image to open the standard iOS share sheet or Save to Photos to save the card directly.
BEAM Pace only asks for permission to add an image to Photos when you choose Save to Photos.
Accessibility
Does BEAM Pace support larger text sizes?
Yes. BEAM Pace supports iOS accessibility features including Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, Light Mode and Dark Mode.
If text appears larger than expected, check your iPhone settings under:
Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size
and
Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text
Offline use and privacy
Does BEAM Pace need an internet connection?
No. Pace, split and race calculations work on your device and do not require an internet connection.
What data does BEAM Pace collect?
BEAM Pace does not require an account, contains no advertising and does not collect your calculations or saved targets.
Read the BEAM Pace Privacy Policy.
