Now is the perfect time to commence your training program for the 2023 Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival.
Marathon
If you are tackling the marathon this year, congratulations, you should already have a decent base of running under your belt. For the marathon we recommend an 18 week schedule to train well and run your best. Or at minimum a 12 week training block. The marathon is a long distance and requires a significant commitment to training and long runs to cover the distance well.
5km, 10km and Half Marathon
For the 5km, 10km and Half Marathon events we recommend a 12 week training plan. 12 weeks allows enough time to train all systems including:
- building your endurance,
- improving your lactate threshold pace,
- improving your VO2 Max and
- improving your speed and running form.
Twelve weeks is enough time to train specifically for the event and see improvement. If you can’t quite get 12 weeks in, you can still benefit following our running training for a minimum of 8 weeks before the event.
